FOODS TO AVOID FOR YOUR GERBIL…
When it comes to feeding a gerbil it ought really to be common sense… if you emulate what they would eat naturally in the wild.However it is easy to sometimes think you are going to give a little treat because it is something that you think is nice.
One of these foods is chocolate, when in fact chocolate contains Theobromine which is fine for us but is actually toxic to gerbils and many other small animals.
There are quite a few more foods that you should avoid giving.
FOOD TO AVOID:
- Chocolate
It Contains a chemical substance called: theobromine.
This substance is very toxic to gerbils and ever for all other pets such has cats, dogs, horses, etc.
Animal cannot digest this substance as we do and get intoxicated by it.
It has the same effect then caffeine but a little less pronounced.
Heart attacks can occur in some serious cases.
If your going to have some chocolate make sure you gerbils not watching you!
- Citrus Fruits Of Any Kind
- Unbaked Eggs
Be aware that if salmonella infects your gerbil, touching the faeces of the gerbil can also infect you.
Diarrhoea is the main symptom and can be deadly to you Gerbil.

- Alcohol
You need to avoid this too, set a good example for you gerbil.
- Coffee And Tea
Don't give them coffee! Lol, mind the funny hamster/gerbil picture on the left of my site!

Im not sure on Fruit Seeds because i was wondering what about cucumbers, they have seeds... but gerbils love cucumbers,
i will have to do some research!
